Donham, Charles Lennie

Donham, Charles Lennie

Born in Tallulah, LA, raised in New Roads, LA and later a resident of Baton Rouge and Zachary, Charles Lennie Donham (‘Charlie’) passed away at the age of 78 on Monday, April 24, 2023 at The LaCour House in New Roads. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan Scott Donham; daughter: Kerrie Donham Scott-Williams (married to Bryan Scott-Williams); son: Stephen C. Donham (married to Marcy Jewell Donham); grandchildren, Brennan, Elle, Erin, & Palmer Scott-Williams, and Jack and Luke Donham. Also survived by brothers-inlaw and close friends Robert J. David (married to Stella Scott David) and William H. Scott (married to Sandy Lemoine Scott). He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Rebecca Coco Donham, and his brother Thomas Richard Donham (married to Kathy Finn). Charlie was a graduate of Poydras High School in New Roads and LSU in Baton Rouge, before embarking on a 40-year career as a Chemical Engineer. A life-long LSU Tiger fan and avid golfer, Charlie enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling to the Rockies (his many shortcuts were the stuff of legend). Charlie was devoted to the people he met in life; strangers became friends, and friends became life-long bonds. Which characteristics of a human do we most admire? What elements of a human do we most appreciate? Authenticity. Kindness. Trueness. These traits defined Charlie. If you knew Charlie Donham, you liked him. If you knew him well, you loved him. What little we know of the disorder that took Charlie from us is it often results in unintentional anger. Yet never did anger conquer Charlie. Through an incurable condition, his goodness remained apparent to all. A visitation was held at First United Methodist Church at 206 Pennsylvania St. in New Roads on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Charlie Donham’s honor to the Dementia Society of America.
